Shutter Island’s glass disappearance: Teddy Daniels’ story is manifested physically in water (He gets sea sick), while his avoidance of truth is manifested by fire. Teddy is blocking out the water, psychologically. And that’s why Martin Scorsese didn’t show the glass of water, because the audience is watching the movie through Teddy’s eyes. And Teddy cannot swallow the truth.
